Bulkhead Fittings
Bulkhead fittings are used in rainwater harvesting systems to plumb or connect pumps, water lines, overflows and interconnect tanks. Plastic bulkhead fittings are used anytime a hole is made through a tank to simplify the attachment of plumbing pieces. The use of a plastic bulkhead fitting will help avoid stress cracks and leakage. They also simplify the removal of pumps and accessories. A lot of rain barrel sites advocate just threading your fixtures through the hole in the barrel with some sort of caulking. Not a good idea. Make a system that will last by using the correct parts.
