This Image Shows how the flexible hose connects to the provided bulkhead on the floating suction filter. It can be above the surface or below the surface. If you are using a submersible pump, it can be attached there as well.

This Image shows the filter side with the float. It keeps the filter several inches below the surface of the water at all times to insure that only the cleanest water in the tank is being pumped to your watering system.
